NEW PROJECT
String Driven’s latest project is recording songs from a musical play, “The Young Pretender” written by Chris Adams & his long time friend, Chester Studzinski.
Some years ago, Chris wrote some songs inspired by the 1745 Rebellion with the idea of using them in a musical based on the Bonnie Prince Charlie story, but it wasn’t till 2009 that he and Chester found the time to concentrate their energies on the task. Back in the 80’s, they had collaborated on two musicals, “Schoolboys In Disgrace”, featuring songs from a Kinks album of the same name, and “Vinyl”, using Chris’s own songs. It told the story of a rock star who, after trying to commit suicide on stage, ends up in a mental institution. While there, his records start to take off and he finds himself back in the rock world. The question is which is the saner place to be?
Chris & Chester spent over a year pulling together “The Young Pretender” and reaction from those who have read it is extremely positive. All that is needed is an ambitious theatrical group to take the project on board. Celtic Music Radio has taken an interest and Chris & Chester were on Gordon Hotchkiss’ programme on Wednesday 15 December chatting about the project. The story, which combines factual and fictional characters and takes the audience on a journey which starts at the point that the Prince landed in Scotland, through the gathering of the clans, their march into England & the sudden dramatic return from Derby, culminating in the horrific day at Culloden .
